Implant Dentistry

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (synthetic material) that is surgically anchored into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. The benefit of using implants is that they don't rely on neighboring teeth for support, they are permanent and stable.

Why are Implants Needed?
Implants are good solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth. Dental implants create a beautiful smile – the smile you deserve! You’ll find renewed confidence in eating, speaking, and sharing your smile with the world. Dental implants also:

  • Make you look younger by providing internal facial structure

  • Prevent bone loss, which occurs when teeth are missing

  • Keep your healthy teeth safe by reducing stress

  • Keep your other teeth in correct position

  • Free you to eat whatever you want to, whenever you want to

  • Can increase your sense of taste

  • Free you to speak and laugh with confidence

  • Offer a long-term smile solution

  • Improve your quality of life

Depending on a patient’s specific situation, the implants can be used in different ways:

Replacing a Single Tooth:  If you are missing a single tooth, one implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.

Replacing Several Teeth:   If you are missing several teeth, implant-supported bridges can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
Replacing All of Your Teeth:   If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots. This is an alternative to partial dentures, and has several advantages. First, there is no adjustment period to acclimatize the patient who, once the work is done, you have your teeth with no metal supports intruding into the mouth. Second, this slows the bone loss associated with missing teeth. Third, it does not stress the surrounding teeth for support, and, should the teeth wear out, another tooth can be replaced on the post. Finally and most importantly, there is no discomfort or difficulty in eating. And, best of all, of course, they don't have to be taken out all the time.

What is involved in placing an Implant?
It takes minimum of 2-3 appointments for an implant. Initially, a small titanium post is surgically placed into the bone and allowed to set. The bone grows around it forming a tight connection, which slows or stops the bone loss that occurs when the root of a natural tooth is missing. Once the implant is firmly set in the mouth, then we attach the replacement tooth, bridge or denture onto the top of the post.

Does an Implant Require Special Care?
As you know, your own teeth require conscientious at-home oral care and regular dental visits. Dental implants are like your own teeth and will require the same care. In order to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, brushing and flossing still apply!

After treatment, we will work closely with you to develop the best care plan for you. Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your implant, teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy.
